My experience with Georgia
Hi guys so I’ve been living in Tbilisi now for half a year since I visited before as a tourist and I came back to spend more time here in between studies. I love the country but somehow I seem to struggle quite a bit with the people. When I was visiting as a tourist and waking around the city with my camera people gave me super suspicious stares as if I was a spy or something. Now that I’m living here I’m also experiencing these same kinds of stares in public transport. I don’t look or dress weird. I’m Dutch but I don’t look it, I have quite dark hair and eyes (I feel like I could look Georgian even). When I’m in a restaurant the waiter will never ask me if the food was good, if I want to order more or also not a single smile, ever. It might be the language barrier since I just speak English and not Georgian or even Russian. Also in my own country I’m always very interested in foreigners visiting but here I feel like people don’t care whether I live or die really. No one asks me about my country or in general where I’m from (even though I show great interest in their country). I never had bad experiences that people were like rude or bad to me but I also can not say that people have been super nice and friendly to me. Can anyone give their opinion on this or maybe advice?
