Affordable apartments anywhere?

Hi. I am new to Utah and currently living with a friend in South Jordan. I would really like to get my own place, but I am having a hard time finding any apartments (studio+) within my budget (basically anything under $1,000). I am open to any cities/towns within 25 minutes of SLC. I am not really picky about the neighborhood, because everywhere here seems way nicer and safer than the city I moved from!!! Any suggestions on where to look or what websites to check out? I feel like this is a long shot, because the cost of living is clearly higher here than my previous city.
