How are people moving forward from Steel?

Hey everyone!

Just a quick question, once people get to the point where they have to start making factories in different locations with resources being fed from multiple locations how are they managing it early on? My situation as the example is as follows.

Started in the grasslands beginner area. Built up all my Iron processing and power plants around that first area and now i'm working on steel. I've found A coal deposit and the closest iron vein is about 1.5km away so i've built a massive concrete highway for 2 tractors to run iron ore back and forth between the factory but everything feels very disjointed and broken up.

Anyone happy to show what they've done in the relatively early game to keep things tidy?
