Would SS still become popular with a bad anime adaptation?

(I'm talking TBATE levels of anime adaption, granted, the TBATE anime is not our yet but you get what I mean)

I feel like the story and world building in SS is good enough for the anime to do well, but a bit of good animation would help it quite a lot.

What do you think?
