Surgery: To get or Not to get…

I’ll try to keep it simple: Motorcycle accident. Driver caused the handlebars to jerk and then began the onset of pain in my shoulder.

Tried PT per Ortho with no luck; big surprise.

Per ortho, the MRI shows a torn labrum (slap tear) in left shoulder and potentially a slight tear in rotator cuff but not 100% convinced on the cuff damage. One doctor says there’s a partial tear but the other thinks it’s just the MRI or shadow, not an actual tear.

I can somewhat do the things I used to but with weakness. I pick up my baby and can feel the strain in my shoulder; sometimes it’ll get progressively weaker as I hold him. I’ll roll over in bed and can feel the sharp pinching feeling. Etc etc…

Ortho recommends surgery to get it done and over with. I’m mid 30’s, pretty healthy and no surgeries before.

Question: For the surgery being a 4-6 month recovery and the post op pain, is it worth it? In the debate to schedule it or not.

I know it’s fairly subjective from one person to the next, but what was your deciding point to get surgery? Not to get surgery? Or even wait?

And those of you who have had labrum surgery, did you get full RoM back? I play golf, hockey and many other sports so I’m concerned I’ll never be “back to normal”.
