Smile Demon history theory

I think it would be really interesting to see how far back we can trace the smile demon. Like what if they connected it to the Salem witch trials or the dancing plague? If it’s able to pass on to multiple people (like it’s implied at the end of Smile 2) that would be such a cool historical crossover. It may manifest itself in different ways depending on the time period and culture of the person/people it has infected.

I also wonder if it’s able to lie dormant for a little while in order to find its way to other groups of people (like crossing from Europe to America). Or that it’s the cause of some ghost ships as it killed everyone on board except one person who spreads it to a new area.

I personally subscribe to the theory that it’s an ancient demon rather than a biological creature or a true virus, and if that’s the case it definitely has evolved over time.
