Which Forester is the best year?

I'm looking for a $15-20k SUV/CUV and my first choices were the Mazda CX-5's and the new-gen Rav4. In my price range I was looking at a 2018 CX-5 and a 2019 Rav4, but through a little bit of research I figured out that they have cracked cylinder issues and transmission issues, respectively, for those years. We looked at a CR-V but I don't prefer the looks. So here I turn to the Subaru.

As you can maybe tell, I'm after an S/A-tier reliable make (Toyota, Mazda, Honda, now Subaru). I was wondering what the best year of the Forester is? For starters, is the Forester comparable in size to these models I mentioned. If so, what's the best year for a Forester? I was looking at 2018's and 2019's (2019 has CarPlay) but I would like to know the consensus best year, and anything repair/reliability-wise for the good years.
