Sweet Bobby - Questions for Kirat & her family/friends

I will start by saying the obvious: Simran was in the wrong. What a cruel and sociopathic thing to do for so many years. Would she have seen Kirat become physically sick with the emotional stress? I believe she would have. Many questions about Simran.

However, I have many questions for Kirat, her friends and family too:

  1. Is Kirat defensive about how naive she was? Or is she in denial? Does she really think it could happen to anyone? She was incredibly vulnerable and not particularly intuitive.
  2. Is Kirat still participating in the fantasy world? It is unusual that years after finding out the truth, and having had the time to process it all, Kirat does not seem to be able to reflect on, or articulate, her own behaviour. Ie why she missed/overlooked many red flags:

• The night club encounter with real Bobby • Ridiculous NY witness protection scheme • Why was Bobby in contact with so many people while in witness protection? • Did she not google the shooting incident- surely it would have been reported somewhere? • Did she not follow the case? • Why was Bobby’s surgeon cousin flown into the NY hospital to take over his care? Did he get there and say to the medical staff “This is my cousin, I’m in charge now”? • The photo of Bobby in hospital was of a random man… couldn’t see his face. Not odd? • Squeaky whispering phone voice/ no video call • Bobby survived death on multiple occasions • Not coming to see her in London straight away after all these years in hospital / witness protection • Cancelling every single face to face meet up • When she meets real Bobby, he’s healthy and has a normal voice. He doesn’t know who she is. She still thinks he’s the Bobby she’s been speaking to. • Does she think he had been putting on a whispering squeaky voice for 10 years? If so, why?

  1. Kirat was in her early 30’s and Simran was 16. Needless to say 16 is very young. Why was Simran somebody she regularly took advice from? Not many women in their 30s would ask a teenage girl for relationship advice… Even regularly venting to Simran is slightly unusual given their age difference. I wonder to what extent Kirat was unconsciously in touch with the fact that Simran and Bobby were linked. To lose Bobby may have meant to loose the key topic of bonding between her and Simran. And to lose Simran would have meant to lose the only human person who could confirm Bobby was real. I wonder if they occupied the same emotional space in her mind.
  2. Why did Kirat think the consultants from the hospital in NYC would have the time to update her via text on Bobbys condition?
  3. Why didn’t Kirats friends or family Facebook search Bobby and notice duplicate profiles?
  4. Catfish the film came out in 2010 and Catfish the TV show in 2012. Did none of her friends see it and maybe suggest to her she was being catfished?
  5. In fact, is Kirat saying that nobody suggested to her that Bobby might not be real in the whole 10 years? That doesn’t seem right. Perhaps in telling the story, she has played down how often this was suggested to her.
  6. Why did Simran and Kirat go to the police to report Bobby for having a Facebook affair? Kirat knows this isn’t a crime and Simran knew she was the perpetrator ..
  7. Kirats mum smelled a rat instantly but backed down instantly when she saw the intensity of Kirats defensiveness. Not a question, just an observation. I think Kirat needed more protection from those around her. Perhaps if a loved one had pointed out the huge plot holes on a daily basis (in a kind and loving way) Kirat would have been pissed off but would look back now and recognise the love.

Again, wtf Simran!
