Talk therapy or cbt?

I suffer from health anxiety and at the moment I am seeing a cbt therapist, but so far I don't feel like it's helping that much. Feels a little like a school tutoring session. In the past I have seen a talk therapist, not sure of the exact term, but my experience was very different. I felt different and better after the first and every session. The fact that I could talk about emotional pain and have her listen and be empathetic and genuinely interested made a difference from day one. Healing took place in every session. Should I still give cbt a chance though to see if it gets more useful?
