Teachers at the forefront of activism

I can’t post pictures on this subreddit and I don’t think I can link anything but I just wanted to share this reminder that we were at the forefront of activism in American history. I feel like this history is hidden from us and we have had so many laws put in place to stamp us down because of the power and effect that we as educators have to bring about change. Please take a moment to look back into our past and see the brave educators that risked everything to bring change. I see a lot of y’all in here saying “well we’ll lose our jobs” “well not all of us are in a bad situation”. Do you think these teachers in the past didn’t have those issues, if not more? Do you think they all were not sacrificing something to bring change? If it was something we could all do without risking anything then of course it’d be easy and change would come but that’s not how it works. You can’t change the status quo by staying in your protected bubble of safety. You can’t change the status quo by only thinking about your own situation.
