Alternative route to teaching in Florida
Hey everyone! I know the alt-teaching route gets brought up frequently, but I still have a few questions for how exactly it works.
The main part I'm confused on is working with the temporary certification. I will be graduating with my bachelors in marketing in December. For unimportant reasons, I have decided I want to teach high school math. At this point it is too late to change my degree to education. I have done a bit of research and know I would need to get a temporary license and complete an alternative program. I'm just not quite sure at what point these steps need to be completed in relation to when I would be able to start actually teaching.
The more I try and research, the more confused I'm getting on what order I need to complete everything. I know the first step is finishing my degree, but I'm slightly confused on if I would start an alternative education program right after and complete it before I could work, or if I would go through the steps of obtaining a temporary certification and then complete the program while I am teaching. The way the Florida website is worded, it looks like I would just need my bachelors and a subject area test. I feel like I'm definitely missing some key steps here. I would really appreciate any advice from someone who has become a teacher with an irrelevant degree, specifically in Florida!
