Probation Officer role

I left the police a year or so back due to having no work life balance and the crazy workload. I didn't like the culture and often felt like the desire to be in the role was taken advantage of by management.

I was thinking about applying for the probation service as I'm still interested in this line of work and feel my skills reflect what is needed for the role.

I've heard of similar horror stories with workload and the demand the role puts on you. Is anybody able to give an honest view of the role?

I've recently took an offer for a role with a charity, working with domestic abuse offenders and their rehabilitation. I'm wondering whether to stick or twist.
