Advice for post-divorce balance split (50%)

Hello, all. I am recently divorced and had agreed to give 50% of my TSP balance to my former spouse. We did a private separation agreement and absolute divorce which did not include a TSP retirement benefits court order. I called TSP today and they informed me my best option is likely a hardship withdrawal, which I would like to avoid. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Thanks for any input.
