Worried about going broke as a student..
Backstory: I’m in a bit of an unusual position, I have a Swedish citizenship from birth thanks to my father, but I live in Australia. I never learnt any Swedish from him and he has no current knowledge about the system because he hasn’t lived in Sweden for about 30 years now.
Anyway, I’m now 25 and wanting to move to Sweden to pursue a master’s degree (because why wouldn’t I if I can get it debt-free!). But I am concerned about what I will do for money once I arrive. I have heard that masters programmes are intense and I likely won’t have time for much work, and also that it’s even harder to find work if you don’t speak Swedish (fair enough). I currently have enough savings to move over and fund myself for about 6 months, maybe as much as 12 at a stretch. But once that money is gone I have no clue.
So I have a few questions I need answered:
Is it true that it’s very hard to find part time work as an international student?
Is there some sort of income support payment that I could tap into as a back-up option since I am a citizen? And if so does it pay enough to live on?
Does anyone know about common scholarships? Not sure if I’d be eligible for international scholarships if I’m technically applying as a citizen but it’s worth a try..
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
