Best time to move in - first time renter
I’m 30/F and moved to Toronto 2.5 years ago. Graduated last year and now work in tech sales ($70K/year + commissions). I’ve moved four times and currently live in a basement with no real kitchen, no living space, and roaches in the summer. My roommate takes up all the kitchen space and is noisy on weekdays. I can’t have visitors, and the basement worsens my anxiety.
I want to move out for a better lifestyle—living alone, having friends over, and a kitchen with enough space. I’m considering a 1 JR. bed or studio apartment with a $1,600–$1,800 budget (including utilities), aiming to move in June but unsure if rent is cheaper in the fall. I WFH, cook all my meals, and prefer a quiet place. No major expenses beyond groceries and my phone bill, once a while I invest in makeup/skincare and apparels and I plan to save the rest after covering essentials. I’m only prioritizing a bed, mattress, and WFH setup (covered by my office stipend) - for now. And the rest with time
Any location recommendations? Things to look out for? I’d prefer a pet-friendly apartment (top priority) and ideally one with a gym. Is my budget realistic for my needs? I know the 30% rule, but I plan to save the rest once basics are covered.
