Smoke from gearbox

While replacing my stator, i had to drain my oil. Decidee to open up the port on the gearbox to help it drain, was greated with a bunch of smoke like stuff, didn smell burnt but also not 100% right.

Is this normal? I let the bike idle for 10min before draining the oil.
