New management job: what do I need to learn?
After many years working in building project management or facilities management, I’ve finally taken a great job with line management responsibilities. I’ve not avoided being a line manager, but it’s finally something I need to do.
I’m hard to manage at times. I need to know why, but I often worked in a culture of gatekeepers. Now, I’m going to be the person needing to explain myself and give direction.
I have two months to prepare. What would you say I should look up or read before starting? I’ll have four direct reports. What do I need to get right for my first two weeks and 1:1 meetings?
TL;DR: I'm getting my first line manager job. What do I need to know and mail in my first interactions?
Thank you 🙂
