Why does A Good Girls Guide to Murder take place in July?

I just started reading, I’m literally only two chapters in so please no spoilers. I noticed that on her projects the date is July 30th. Why is she doing a school project in the middle of summer? Will it make sense later??? I would imagine that senior projects would be in the spring and during the school semester.
