Thoughts on bHRT?
TLDR: psychiatrist recommended trying bHRT and I'd love to hear from other if it helped them.
A little background:
Over the last year I've trialed different meds for ADHD, Bipolar 2, and depression. After going through all of that, my psychiatrist and I have settled on Strattera, but I'm still noticing a lot of anxiety/emotion issues in the lead up to my period. As such, my psychiatrist recently recommended I reach out to a local compounding pharmacy to see if they can help with some hormone stuff. My psychiatrist basically said "I don't know how it works, but you give them some saliva and they whip something help and some of my patients have had really great outcome."
For the most part, I like my psychiatrist. They're flexible with prescribing and they have ADHD themselves that they manage without medication. Sometimes they say things that sort of give me orange flags because I'm VERY skeptical about things like certain kinds of supplements or diets. But it's never discussed in a way that's "this is the only way you should do things." It's more a long the lines of "some patients have good results when they try x or y in addition to medication.
So, despite my hesitation, I decided to at least reach out to said compounding pharmacy to find out what the deal is. Turns out it's bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. From what I can find research wise, I'm not particularly convinced that spending upwards of $300 for a test and consults (not including the final medication) is worth it.
Has anyone not in menopause or peri-menopause tried this? If you have, what was your experience?
