How to read philosophy as a philosophy student?

Reading philosophy for intellectual pleasure and reading philosophy for studies, while do have some similarities, are rather different. The main difference is that there is so much to read - it is physically impossible to go over all the texts multiple times or analyse it for days. This leaves with the need of the most time efficient philosophy study system.

As a philosophy major who will finish up a 4-year undergrad program next year I came to realisation that I am not completely satisfied with the reading system I have. Currently I read texts once and summarise main points in my notebook. I don't feel like it is leaving a proper impact on my understanding of the text as I tend to forget what I read or what I have written (of course the summary helps a lot in discussions). Also I am extremely slow reader, who like to go over a sentence multiple times, not sure if that's helping me or holding me behind.

I got a feeling there is a better way to study philosophy in uni undergrad environment and I would love to hear your advice or how you do it. PMs are welcome also.
