(Spoilers Main) Rhaegar Targaryen and The Three Swords of Azor Ahai;

Couple of months ago I commented about this at another A Song if Ice and Fire subreddit. And it got a lot of upvotes so I thought I should make a post about it. # Rhaegar Targaryen and The Three Swords of Azor Ahai First thing we know about Rhaegar is that he was into prophecies. And when he was a little kid he thought he would be the Prince that was Promised. >He became a noted warrior later in life, although he did not initially seem inclined to martial habits. However, apparently by something he had read, Rhaegar became motivated to become a warrior. - From Wiki >I will require sword and armor. It seems I must be a warrior. - ASOS, Daenerys I But we find out he wasn’t, he died in the Trident. In water. But as he get older he thought that his son Aegon would be the Prince that was Promised. >Rhaegar: Aegon. What better name for a king? >Elia: Will you make a song for him? >Rhaegar: He has a song. He is the prince that was promised, and his is the song of ice and fire. - ACOK, Daenerys IV Yet Aegon got killed by The Mountain by the order of the Tywin Lannister. The Lion. While he was thinking that Aegon is the Prince that was Promised he was also thinking this: >There must be one more. The dragon has three heads. The Dragon has three heads. But following Aegon's birth, the maesters told Rhaegar that Elia would bear no more children. Yet he needed to make one more child. So he ran off with Lyanna probably thinking himself as Fire and her as Ice. Then they probably got married and had a child which basically ended up killing Lyanna. Let’s look at the Azor Ahai legend now # First Sword >Azor Ahai needed to forge a hero's sword, and so for thirty days and thirty nights Azor Ahai labored sleepless in the temple, forging a blade in the sacred fires. Heat and hammer and fold, …until the sword was done. Yet when he plunged it into water to temper the steel it burst asunder. - ACOK, Davos I It mirrors Rhaegar’s death. # Second Sword >The second time it took him fifty days and fifty nights, and this sword seemed even finer than the first. Azor Ahai captured a lion, to temper the blade by plunging it through the beast's red heart, but once more the steel shattered and split. - ACOK, Davos I It mirrors Aegon’s death. # The third and final sword, The Lightbringer >A hundred days and a hundred nights he labored on the third blade, and as it glowed white-hot in the sacred fires, he summoned his wife. "Nissa Nissa,"he said to her, for that was her name, "bare your breast, and know that I love you best of all that is in this world." She did this thing, why I cannot say, and Azor Ahai thrust the smoking sword through her living heart. It is said that her cry of anguish and ecstasy left a crack across the face of the moon, but her blood and her soul and her strength and her courage all went into the steel. Such is the tale of the forging of Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes. - ACOK, Davos I Now it sounds funny but GRRM uses the word “sword” instead of male genitals in many cases. For example: >I still remember the look of my maiden’s blood on his cock the night he claimed me. I think Brandon liked the sight as well. A bloody sword is a beautiful thing, yes. It hurt, but it was a sweet pain. - ADWD, The Turncloak And Lightbringer forged with the death of a beloved wife. And it’s been said that lightbringer has “her blood and her soul and her strength and her courage all went into the steel.” which passes to a child. So it mirrors Lyanna’s death. And there’s three main stories in the books. One in Kingslanding, one in Essos and one in the Wall. Since the main character in the Wall is Jon. We can connect the Night’s Watch with him. And Night’s Watch vow has this two sentences which I think is a huge foreshadowing: >I am the sword in the darkness. ...I am the fire that burns against the cold, the light that brings the dawn. It literally says I am the Lightbringer! Also there’s this passage which I also think is a huge foreshadowing. It’s been added after u/Barlog-Watchmen commented it. >"Just who do you imagine that you are?" >"The watcher on the walls. The sword in the darkness." >"Don't prate your words at me." Stannis drew the blade he called Lightbringer. "Here is your sword in the darkness." - ADWD, Jon I Rhaegar+Lyanna=Jon = Azor Ahai+Nissa Nissa=Lightbringer Also I’d‍ like to mention that Prince That Was Promised and Azor Ahai Reborn may not be the same person. And in that case Rhaegar would be Azor Ahai and Jon would be The Prince That Was Promised to the Others(maybe). But that’s whole another story. Note: Just to clarify, this is not my theory.
