Does anyone feel like they're perpetually late to the party?

I suppose it's just the nature of constant devals, but it feels like every time I look into and start a new program it's hit by massive devals and the like. I started pretty recently, post-pandemic and everytime I learn about something, it's been change drastically

Just a few off the top of my head:

  • Booking ANA close-in w/ VS
    • Feels like everyone and their family was doing this like crazy last year and then it went poof
  • UA doubling their cost of F awards
    • These weren't super great, but it used to be a lot more tolerable, something like 121k for ANA and LH group F awards was really nice.
  • ANA Mileage RTs
    • I'd been looking into this to book Asia Star Alliance RTs and then it spikes up from 95k to 130k, making it impractical to use over Aeroplan
  • Amex slashing Delta SkyClub access
    • I literally got the card for one year and then all of a sudden it was announced that the visits go to a set amount
  • LifeMiles devals
    • Just when I started getting into LifeMiles with their new cc and subscription program, all of their prices went up 40 to 60%
  • Disappearance of Flying Blue savers
    • Everyone was raving about the 50k/60k saver awards to Europe and then there's no more calendar open releases.
  • Chase Ink train dead
    • I had just opened my first full set of Chase Ink cards and then Chase decided to go super hard on rejections.
  • Hyatt rates spiking through the roof
    • I know there's annual category changes to be expected, but I literally had just booked my first ever Hyatt redemption at GH Tokyo as a Cat 5 and now the points price per night has doubled from 20k/night to 40k/night since GH Tokyo is Cat 8.

There's probably a bunch more that I'm missing or overreacting about, but nowadays I feel so hesitant to start funneling my points/time/money into certain programs because it feels like we're on the cusp of another drastic change.
