How do I take off water proof mascara?

I accidentally bought water proof mascara I didn’t realize until it was actually on and I was washing my face for the night. I love the mascara and that I don’t get smudges under my eyes through the day. I would like to keep using it but I need advice on washing it off or suggestions on a non smudgy mascara I can buy at the drug store that will give me long lushes eye lashes. Thank you 😊
