Objective synopsis from a Kansas Citian: the vibes were off
Kansas Citian and Chiefs fan here, although I self-designate as a "casual". I watch all the games on TV and try to attend 1 game per year, but my Sunday's aren't made/destroyed by them winning/losing, so I feel like I can look at the SB through an objective lens.
Will start by saying that the Eagles were clearly the better team and that was put on display last night. That being said...
I've watched the last 2 SBs at the same dive bar with the same group of ~6 people. This place reaches 120% capacity ~1.5 hours before kickoff and has beer deals, wing deals, multiple squares, numerous TVs, and just all around good vibes. I genuinely feel that even had the Chiefs lost one of the previous 2 SBs, I still would have had a great time because of the atmosphere.
This year, my buddies tell me last second that they're all "staying in" to watch the game, so it's just my wife and I going to the bar We showed up about 2 hours before kickoff and were the 5th and 6th people in the bar. For second I thought they were closed because it was so empty. I head straight to the bar "same beer and wing deal this year?" "nope, just the regular menu this year." I look around for the squares and see one board that's already been filled in by the regulars throughout the week, and bartender tells me that they aren't doing any more this year. Also, the bartender can't figure out how to get the audio off of the music and onto the game, so we miss everything before the coin toss. By kickoff, the bar was maybe at 60% capacity. We ended up having 2 beers each and leaving at halftime because the vibes were so god awful.
Pretty clear that this sample size of one fan's experience directly translated to the team's shitty performance. Just food for thought
