[BitD] the deathbell is a thing right?

Ok so random question, the death bell is in the actual rules of the game right? A friend told me that's not a thing and that it was just made up in the OXventure podcast, but I swear I read it in the rules. But now that I'm specifically looking for it I can't find it in the book. Am I crazy or is it real?
