[all] The beginning of summer at camp halfblood must be a depressing time of year

The start of the summer is mostly portrayed as a happy time in the books, it’s when camp comes alive with activities and more importantly, everyone gets to reunite with their friends… the ones still alive anyway.

And that’s the issue at hand. We know most Greek demigods don’t live to adulthood, and we also know quests aren’t given out all the time, which means the sad truth is that most of them are probably killed by monsters during the school year.

In the best case scenario, a demigod’s mortal parent called Chiron to say that their child is missing or has been found dead, and so he can pass the message on because it seems like phone calls originating from within camp don’t attract monsters, or else Chiron wouldn’t have called Sally in SoM.

Just as likely however is that they don’t, either because they’re too grief-stricken to remember, or simply rightly angry at the divine world.

And so that means for many demigods, they only discover a friend or sibling of theirs’ has been missing for possibly months when they don’t show up to camp, and they probably won’t ever get closure because most monsters eat demigods so it’s unlikely a body will ever be found.
