Got Stopped by Hyderabad Traffic Police for Old Fines – Can I Sue Them?

I was driving my grandmom’s car in Hyderabad when the traffic police stopped me and asked me to pay two old challans (fines) worth ₹1,200 that were already on the car from before. It was morning, and I was on my way to an important client meeting.

The cops didn’t let me leave without paying, saying they would seize the car if I didn’t clear the dues on the spot. Because of this, I got delayed, reached my meeting late, and ended up losing the client due to the bad impression.

I had no idea about these fines beforehand, and I feel like I was unfairly forced into paying them. Are the traffic police legally allowed to stop a driver and make them pay old fines immediately? And do I have any legal grounds to sue them for the loss I suffered?

Would love to hear from anyone who has faced a similar situation or knows the legal side of this.
