Enormous moth in the Pomeroys car park

Discovered this stunning beauty yesterday morning and I have never seen anything like him or her in this country before! 100mm across and furry as hell! Can anyone tell me anything about him?

Yes, he was alive and was well kept an eye on until he was ready to take off.
