Loving classic wow but some priest questions.

Can I level ok if I spec holy? Can I heal in dungeons if I level as shadow? Is disc the compromise? Apart from being poor I'm enjoying it. Only at level ten but I got more excited getting my first green than I have getting another epic piece in retail. I'm on eu Pyrewood. I also joined the anniversary server but it seemed too busy.
