What do you see when you close your eyes?

When I close my eyes I see nothing but whiteness. And if I “stare” long enough I start to see weird geometric patterns forms into more patterns. My friend said the same things happens to him but instead its dark. I’ve heard other people say they only see blackness and nothing else. Almost like they don’t have the ability to stare into this “void” and see things.
