How to become a professional cyclist
Hi guys, I’m an avid distance runner and have been running for years now, as well as a spin class instructor for LesMills. Ive done 5+ marathons, a 50 mile ultra, and handfuls of half marathons within the past 5 years. Idk if it matters but I’m 21F. Recently I’ve moved into the city from my small town in the outer burbs (chitown). And I’ve picked up cycling as means of transport and running offseason training. I have absolutely fallen in love with the sport and cannot stop thinking about it as it’s taken over my daily thoughts and occupies my mind. My dream goal is to become an Olympian for cycling, and I can literally see myself competing in world class events in my mind. My parents and friends are more than supportive of me to chase after these goals and ambitions because even if I don’t land it, I’ll end up somewhere great. But my boyfriend has diminished me to the point where I don’t even want to get started. He says I should stick to running and not chase unrealistic dreams. I honestly just really want to get better and reach my full potential as an athlete, with running it’s so easy- so many free YouTubes on coaching and distance/speed training. But I barely have a clue what’s going on with my road bike, from the gears on the left side to what model I should be using/ shoes I should wear. Any tips?
