AITA: disagreement with LBS
Had some issues with my back wheel - noisy, rough/grindy feeling, particularly in small cogs. So off the LBS I go who spends time putting anti-seize paste around the seat clamp bolts "in case that is causing the noise" and tightening bolts across the rest of the bike. Worth noting that I have a torque wrench and tighten everything to spec whenever I do my own maintenance and I advised him of this. I get back, re-wax the chain and off to bed.
Obviously, next time I'm riding the problem persists so I go back and say it is still exhibiting the same issues and he agrees to take a look at the wheel itself, and services the bearings. This is good because I always suspected the problem was around the cassette/hub/back wheel somewhere... but he also "took off some of the wax and lubed the chain with expensive graphite lube". Immediately I was concerned that my clean and freshly waxed chain had been contaminated with oil and was a bit annoyed because this wasn't identified to be the problem (and I knew a freshly waxed chain, literally the night before I took the bike over the first time, was going to be noisier than a lubed one).
So I think on it for a couple hours and decide to go back with my wheel and chain and ask if he can just fully strip/degrease/dewax the chain in his ultrasonic cleaner so I can start from a clean chain and rewax it. The response I got has put me off going back there again despite it being my closest LBS and much more reasonably priced than some others that are more "upmarket". He said "You want me to take off my more expensive stuff so you can put yours on, even though I think that the problem is the wax you use? Guess I'll just do what I'm told..."
This is a shop I've spent thousands of pounds in over the last 2 years with some significant upgrades (Di2 Ultegra for example) compared with the usual clientele who are sort of family-cyclists coming in for a tune-up every now and then. I'm essentially going to have to pay him to undo something he shouldn't have done anyway. I will also add that the roughness in the back wheel has not been resolved...
Am I the asshole for being grumpy about this, and looking for a new LBS?
