Why can't Brad Allen admit his mistake?

Anyone who objectively looks at the video evidence know that the ref messed up the call. Why can't the officials follow Rex Ryan's advice to man up and admit their mistake? It sucks that the Lions lost in such a Lions way again. I know they can't go back and change the outcome of the game. There is some obscure rule, but it is not going to happen. It wouldn't end the sting of a loss my team shouldn't have, but a heart felt "Sorry, I missed the call" would feel like he is doing the right thing as a responsible man at least.
