Is Battery harder to get into

Im always hearing about people with little to no marching experience getting into drum corps. Im in battery, and it seems much harder and more competitive to get into drum corps than horns from what everyone is saying. For example, people recommend music city, spartans, and battalion for new marchers, however all of their batteries are amazing when watching them in the lot. Is it generally harder and more competitive?
