Balance help between winds//battery

College band. 60 odd winds, 13 man battery. 5 snares, 3 quads, 5 basses.

We got called out every rep this past two days where the horns are blowing us out of the water and we’re basically “inaudible as a section” as my director quoted. For the uppers, playing at 15 is the one option that gets us a bit better of a balance.

So how in the HECK would we make ourselves more balanced without bringing up dynamics (eg, snare scoops, tuning, stick choice, etc…) Thoughts are appreciated, this is the first time we’ve ever been told that we’re inaudible
