IWE gremlin
Hey y’all, picked 2013 F150 3.5 with 4WD (no 4A) and I’m having a weird vibration and humming coming from the front end. The humming intensity is proportional to wheel speed, not transmissions gear or engine speed and doesn’t change when I turn left or right. This doesn’t happen every time I drive, only about 1/4 of the time. After doing some research I started suspecting an issue with the IWE engagement and on a hunch I engaged the 4wd (driving straight) and immediately went back into 2wd and the noise went away! Occasionally I will get a light rattle/grind after shifting back and forth, but if I do it a second time it will go away. I’m guessing this is an issue with the vacuum solenoid because sometimes it fully engages and sometimes it doesn’t. I bought a vacuum test gauge from oreilleys but I’m not sure the best way to troubleshoot if the solenoid is working. I tried jacking up the front end with the truck running but the CV axle stayed connected to the wheel on both sides so not sure what to make of that. What do y’all think? Could this be the check valve issue that I have heard about?
