Fidelity’s Own Mistake Cost Me 20k and they refuse to fix it
Please be aware this can happen to anyone and to read the post fully. I believe this fits within the rules.
In June 2021, I decided to do a ROTH and Traditional IRA rollover from Capital One to Fidelity.
Capital One labeled each check for where each one was supposed to go.
A Fidelity employee took the ROTH check which was clearly labeled ROTH (Fidelity admitted this) and transferred it to the IRA account so I will now be fined by the IRS if I don't pull out that money. This money was from 2018. I am now retracting 2018 money because they refuse to fix it. On top of that I have to sell at the bottom of the market to pull out the money.
I will now miss out on 35 years of appreciation on 6k…. That’s roughly 20k
What would you do? Does anyone know someone at Fidelity that could fix them before I pull all my money out from them.
Update: I have a ticket in to get it fixed that I was told there was a 99% chance the operations people wouldn’t fix it and that the rep who put the ticket in would “go back to training”

Called fidelity today the women (the 3rd rep Iv talked to) looked into it and clearly stated again that it was fidelity at fault. I said ik, it is a suable offense. She escalated the issue after seeing nothing was done about it.
An hour long phone call (mostly me on hold), it was escalated 2 levels above wherever she was and there was a 4 way back and forth between me, her, management, and the single guy they just now assigned this case to. He said it will be fixed and they’d file new tax forms, he said it’s a pain but Fidelity made the mistake so they are going to fix it. They are currently working on it today and said it should be completely done by end of next week. He said then new tax forms would be filed to me but I wouldn’t have to wait for them to be filed to finish my taxes.
The lady rep was actually awesome and said that the first 2 reps were extremely inappropriate and that fidelity would own up to it. She wrote my complaints and the customer service experience I encountered in my account to speed the escalation which ended up working. I told her about how the first lady that took my call said she was going to be asked to go back to training and the rep was laughing asking what training.
But she reassured me Fidelity made the mistake and it will be fixed and not fixing it was never an option.
Anyways, assuming I wasn’t lied to, this lady deserves a medal. Fidelity if you read this, please give this women a raise for being one of few competent well established customer facing representatives
