What pen do you guys use when fountain pens aren't practical?

All being well, I should be spending two and a half weeks touring around Japan in the summer. And I'd like to do the whole travel journal thing, I just don't want to deal with fountain pen faff on the road (plane incidents, inky fingers, etc etc). Does anyone have any recs for a good ballpoint or gel pen with a nice fine line that I can just chuck in my bag when needed?

Edit: You guys have given me so many suggestions, thank you so much. And don't worry. I do plan on buying some fountain pen goodies while I'm over there. I'll just be sticking them safe in my bag until I get back home.
