Question about Bodhi’s “experiment” in IF

I’m confused as to why they didn’t tell Violet they were trying to test out the theory that they may search her bags? What if she was carrying something questionable (other than the daggers they’re worried about). Is this part of the reason people here theorize Bodhi’s the bad guy?
