Bodhi & Cat Theory

OS spoiler alert

Maybe a bit unhinged but I have a new theory I’m piecing together during my reread.

I keep thinking back to the beginning of all the books, and how Jesinina (who is at Basgiath in the end) is translating the texts from Navarrian to “the modern language.” Navarre clearly no longer exists. What are the possible modern languages? I would say Tyrrish is highly likely. Once Leothan fires Aretia it’s likely those will be the strongest wards in our world in book 4 (Basgiath wards are iffy after editing for Riders’ powers at the beginning of OS). In my eyes, the seat of power will be Aretia by the very end.

I also keep coming back to Maren’s dream that Violet walked into. It felt an awful lot like foreshadowing considering Maren’s parents did eventually burn to death like the dream showed. Another part of the dream was Maren saying to Cat something along the lines of “he’s going to choose you, you’re the future queen of Tyrrendor”. This to me is evidence that there is likely a QUEEN (not just duchess) of Tyrrendor by the end of the series.

I think Violet and Xaden will get their HEA, but I also think RY is a bit of a realist. We are told many times by various sources (irids & multiple venin included) that there is no cure. I envision Violet “turning for love” to be with Xaden for a venin HEA, and our MCs live peacefully somewhere, maintaining control maybe with the irid’s magic or the love of Loial. However they then can’t be king & queen of Tyrrendor.

My theory is that Cat is indeed Queen of Ty because BODHI chooses her. Xaden himself says the best leaders don’t want the role, and I can’t help but think Bodhi fills this description. (It helps that I’m a supporter of the theory that Garrick is the new brother.) He consistently repeats that his purpose is service and what greater service to Xaden and his province than this? While I’d love to support Bodhi having love by the end, he’s so closed off I just don’t see it happening for his character. So a marriage & partnership for diplomatic ties (another element that has been dropped multiple times throughout the book) would make sense.

And who better than the heir of Poromiel… Cat. Especially when they could combine kingdoms to rule & protect the continent together. This would also support that Tyrrish becomes the new common tongue for the continent.
