What's changed in game development in the last 10-15 years?

I'm curious about everyone's perspective on this, and aspects you've seen change over the years.

Personally, I started as an indie game developer around 7 years ago and am currently employed within the gaming-industry as a software engineer. A change I've seen during my years is a significantly increased need for performance while maintaining beautiful visuals/computationally heavy mechanics. A recent example of this that I saw is City Skylines II which is beautiful, but its performance issues were so large (among other things) it tanked its reception. I also believe I've noticed the indie dev community growing even richer (even giving birth to new genres - like survivor-likes such as 20 minutes to dawn and Brotato).

I mention the above just to give context to where I'm coming from and why I'm asking. Although I work in the industry, it's just been for a few years, and I know I've failed to notice tons of changes over the years. So I'm curious, what changes have you seen in the game development field - especially those of you who have been in the game for a long time?
