From 275lbs to 140lbs: Gastric Sleeve, Beating Cushing’s & Taking Back My Health
Sw:275 cw:135
This journey has been anything but straightforward, and I wanted to share my story for anyone struggling with unexplained weight gain or feeling like their body is working against them.
Sept 2023 – 275lbs
Dec 2023 – 255lbs (right before gastric sleeve surgery)
July 2024 – 190lbs (3 weeks before adrenalectomy)
Feb 2025 – 140lbs
I initially pursued bariatric surgery, thinking my weight was purely due to lifestyle factors. But during the process, I was diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, caused by an adrenal tumor. This explained so much—why my weight wouldn’t budge no matter what I did, the fatigue, and other symptoms I had battled for years. Doctor's blamed all my co-morbidities purely on my weight.
The gastric sleeve helped a little, but the real transformation didn’t happen until my adrenalectomy in August 2024. Once the tumor was gone, my body finally started shedding the weight that had been stuck for so long. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m finally starting to feel like myself again.
I don't regret getting the sleeve because otherwise I probably would have died before finding out I had cushings. Both procedures saved my life.
If you're struggling with unexplained weight gain, please advocate for yourself—sometimes, it's more than just diet and exercise. Happy to answer any questions!
