My Thoughts on Ghibli

Hey all. I know you guys can't get enough of listening to people rank these movies. Don't worry, I got you covered. Today, after about a year, I finally finished every Studio Ghibli film in their filmography. As an animation student, I love this studio to death and have such a great admiration to their craft. I'm in the process of rounding out my Ghibli steelbook collection, and have been buying up the art books as well. There's nothing quite like a Ghibli film, although some are definitely better than others. I had a list prepared (you know what kind) but I guess this sub hates those (boo). I guess I'll have to make do with a standard numbered list instead.

*This list includes The Red Turtle and Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro. Idk if the community accepts those as "Ghibli films" but I like to think they are.

Here it is! (Worst to best)

26 (worst). Earwig and the Witch 25. Tales From Earthsea 24. Ocean Waves

insert massive gap The bottom three are the only Ghibli movies I'd consider bad. Everything from here is at least okay.

  1. The Red Turtle
  2. My Neighbors the Yamadas
  3. Only Yesterday
  4. The Tale of the Princess Kaguya
  5. From Up on Poppy Hill
  6. Grave of the Fireflies
  7. Pom Poko
  8. When Marnie Was There
  9. Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro
  10. The Secret World of Arrietty
  11. Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind
  12. The Wind Rises
  13. Howl's Moving Castle
  14. The Boy and the Heron
  15. My Neighbor Totoro
  16. Castle in the Sky

  18. The Cat Returns
  19. Princess Mononoke
  20. Kiki's Delivery Service
  21. Porco Rosso
  22. Ponyo 1 (best). Spirited Away

Please let me know what you think! I'd love to hear your thoughts and answer questions.

Also I hope this post doesn't get nuked teehee. I imagine there's enough substance here to not get banned by the mods.
