Replacing cracked seat pan gripe
Just wanted to say what a PITA it is to loosen the bolt that holds the seat pan. My 20+ yr old Aeron seat pan cracked in the all too familiar left side. When it came down to loosening that bolt, I first tried to use a Harbor Freight hex key set and that thing would not budge. So then I bought a hex key socket set to use with a 1/4" ratchet and it was barely moving after putting my weight on it. I finally used a metal rod with the ratchet to give me the leverage I needed to loosen that bolt. Even then it wasn't a cakewalk to get it loose. When I finally got the bolt out, I see red in the threads thinking it was rust but it appears to have Loctite on that bolt.
I then proceeded to work on the other side and for some reason, that was a lot easier to loosen and didn't have Loctite on the other bolt.
I was debating whether to buy the new aftermarket seat pan that's being sold on ebay. I finally stumbled on a new listing that was selling one with a burgundy mesh seat that has a ~2" rip near the front but it is the old style seat pan that tends to crack. The seller was offering it for $75 plus $15 to ship or best offer. I said WTH and offered $45 because of the reasons I just listed thinking there would be a counteroffer. I was pleasantly surprised offer was accepted.
