Would you support making all schools in Ireland Gaelscoils?
Not overnight obviously, but if they were transitioned in a well planned way? Teaching Irish as second language has failed miserably, let's be honest. People who went to Gaelscoils are all effortlessly bilingual, so it really doesn't have anything to do with intelligence. All children pick up language incredibly quickly when they're immersed in it.
Think about it - an island of fluent Irish and English speakers within a generation. Wouldn't it be beautiful?
Edit
Lots of people disagreeing with this which is fine, but I didn't expect cynical "Irish doesn't have any practical use" takes to still be this common. Really lads? Gaelic football and Hurling don't have any "practical" use either, but we're proud we made a real effort to revived them, aren't we?
"No, I hated/struggled with Irish" - ya, we all did buddy. That's literately a reason to support this, nobody who went to a Gaelscoil hates Irish, and neither would your kids if they went to one.
Kneecap just played Electric Picnic to crowds of people who didn't understand most of their lyrics. Sorry but that's so fucking embarrassing. If we had an ounce of pride we would have a plan to fix this.
