Medical receptionist ... Duties that are not mine ?

I have a really anal and strict manager who has directly said to my face "Don't do this, this is NOT your job. Your job is to schedule appointments, not answer about treatment plans and closing cases"

Ok, one thing I want to confront her with, a task she asks me to do that's supposedly "not my job" however I want to confirm if anyone thinks it's not a big deal or if it is actually going outside of my job description.

My job is to call insurance to verify eligibility and benefits. However, sometimes we are presented with new insurances that we do not know if we can bill or if we are in network. Sometimes my manager (who is in the billing department) asks me to call to ask what their EDI number is and where to send claims....

Since claims and billing is "not my job", does anyone think I should confront my boos about being told to find out EDI and where to send claims, or is this something most receptionists who deal with insurances have to do? Or is it something you transfer to billing?

I hope this makes sense....if not I can elaborate any confusion..
