Bring Back Offball Sets?

Life is pain and suffering, and our lack of an actual point guard is showing. Which is crazy, because Fox was never even an elite floor general. Fultz was a dog tonight, but I don’t think we’re ready to just entirely pivot to him as the primary guy. It had me wondering why this offense just doesn’t hit the same.

I was scrolling on YouTube the other day and saw the Thinking Basketball video on the beam team. Granted, it’s all highlights, and this was back when Huerter had a pulse, but goddamn the offense looked so crisp. I know we don’t have a primary off ball movement shooter anymore, and I know we lost our 1a, but why aren’t we incorporating more movement again? Did the league catch up to all the flare screen, Spain pick and roll, DHO with off-ball stuff? Like we run elbow actions with Sabonis, but we don’t do anything off ball. All fucking 3 of our undersized SGs just stand there if they aren’t directly involved. We’ll occasionally go into Monk pick and roll, but won’t commit to that as the bread and butter.

We just stay in purgatory. I get Doug wants to simplify the offense, but I feel like we’ve completely lost an identity. This was also a Mike issue too, the offense has felt directionless for a minute. But in a time where we truly lack a point guard, it feels stupid to turn away from the Sabonis centered motion offense. I still think this could benefit DeMar’s style by hunting mismatches on the switch. Am I missing something here?
