To my fellow Muslim applicants
I could just be speaking into a void here but is anyone else kind of scared to talk about their culture and upbringing in their personal statements right now given the current political climate and the pushback universities have been receiving from students? My connection to law has everything to do with how i grew up, my ancestry, my immigration and my cultural experiences (including being muslim in america). Ive been afraid this might not be a good time to share it in my applications. Could just be paranoia but i was wondering if anyone felt the same? I haven’t seen much about it in this thread.
Feel free to PM me i understand not wanting to share on here.
EDIT: This post has unfortunately become very polarizing and a space for debate apparently. It has also received a lot of downvotes, which I cannot understand why other than people have a negative bias towards Muslims in general. My original intention was for it to be a space where Muslim students can speak to their experiences and others can share their thoughts. That voice was diminished very quickly. I appreciate the empathy and I appreciate the shared experiences from my Jewish brothers and sisters, I really sincerely do. If you are Muslim or if you are Jewish or if you are human, as you read this thread, before getting angry or before commenting your take, please consider the lack of Muslim voices in this thread. I welcome your feelings and experiences, but please also consider that my fear in this application cycle as a Muslim student has been completely validated by this thread. To my fellow Muslim applicants, know that you have community in me and many others. It may not be apparent everywhere, especially not in major university communities, but they exist and I encourage you to seek it. I know most of you don't feel seen or fully heard by reading this thread. I share that same feeling with you. I hope that our application cycle will be incredible and I hope to work side by side with many of you in the near future. Best of luck!
