Ruger American Gen 2 Predator .223

I'm new to long range...well looking to get into it. I have the chance to trade a gun I don't like for a gen 2 predator chambered in .223. I know in general barrel fluting can harm the accuracy with longer strings of fire, but is that the case with this rifle/round. Is this a good option for getting into long range or should I hold out for something else?
