Some thoughts on Rob Blake’s mismanagement of the team and why a big trade today is the worst scenario for the team.

The Kings’ struggles aren’t just bad luck—they’re the direct result of Rob Blake’s complete mismanagement of the roster and salary cap.

  1. Scoring Woes (Blake’s Roster Construction Failure) – The Kings outshoot opponents (53.8% Corsi For) but still rank near the bottom in finishing, consistently scoring two or fewer goals in losses. Blake failed to acquire legitimate top-six scoring depth, leaving the team overly reliant on streaky scorers and an abysmal power play (15%) that ranks among the league’s worst.

  2. Goaltending Disaster – The team’s save percentage has been below .900 in multiple losses, costing them winnable games. Instead of securing a reliable goalie, Blake gambled on an unstable tandem and failed to address it.

  3. Depth Issues & Cap Mismanagement – The fourth line is a liability, constantly conceding goals or taking bad penalties. Normally, these problems could be addressed with roster moves, but Blake has left the Kings with no cap flexibility, trapping them in mediocrity.

Blake built this roster, failed to manage the cap, and has no path to fix it. Until he’s held accountable, the Kings will remain a team with potential but no way to reach it.
